About Domaine Herzberg Winery:

Our newest winery partner Domaine Herzberg Winery is a family winery in Moshav Sitriya. They produce wine using traditional methods and in limited editions, and grow their own grapes in the vineyard adjacent to the winery, with minimal intervention and natural growth methods. Their wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petite Sirah. The wine is aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels, following the best French tradition. The winery is managed by Max Herzberg, a veteran biotechnologist, voted 2018 Man of the Year in the wine industry by Foodis Magazine and his son, Yoel, a set designer for films and plays.

About Tu B’shvat:

Tu B’shvat gets its name from the date on which the holiday occurs, the 15th of the month of Shevat. A minor Jewish holiday, it is often referred to as the new year (or “birthday”) of the trees. The holiday originated in the Talmud, and was based on the date chosen for calculating the agricultural cycle of taking tithes from the produce of the trees, which were brought as first-fruit offerings to the Temple in Jerusalem.

Tu B’shevat has developed into an ecological holiday that reminds Jews of their connection to the earth and their role as caretakers of the environment. Many celebrate the holiday with a special feast of the seven species endemic to the Land of Israel including: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, dates.
